Wordplay #25  Yegg

yegg> burgler, especially a safe cracker (slang)

Had to laugh, she was a word yegg.
Each day, cracking open safe
of common dictionary, finding,
then stealing away to explore
and use the treasures to be had there.

Note: Tomorrow will be the last Wordplay. I’ve made it through the alphabet from a to tomorrow’s z, finding new words and using them to express some thoughts about writing and the writing life. However, this morning, I found something interesting in the y section of the dictionary. There are an incredible number of words, beginning with that letter, used to express how we speak and use the human voice: yabber, yak or yacking, yammer, yap, yatter, yaup or yawp, yell, yelp, yes man, yikes, yip, yipe, and yodel, to name just a few. And each one of them could easily be used to express a different aspect of what we do when we write. The dictionary is actually a lot of fun.

I think they all have been a bit sparkly, with a bit of magic dust sprinkled on them. Have certainly enjoyed this. And hope you do take up the challenge,

Mary, may go back to some simple prose, haven’t done that for a while. I do believe there is a stone a day challenge coming up soon. Back to beginnings, yes? Thanks for reading along, my friend,
